Surveyor of the Works: In earlier times Master of the Revels, the Surveyor of the Works was responsible for matters architectural and constructional at court. In the case of Inigo Jones, as with many of his comtemporaries in European courts, the responsibilities included the arrangement of court entertainments. Eventually, this function would pass to the Office of the Lord Chamberlain.
