Borders -- long strips of cloth, typically painted to resemble the sky or the ceiling of an interior -- were hung parallel to the proscenium opening and parallel to the stage floor.
Here the borders, and the framework which supports them, have been drafted in red in the sectional drawing. In the three dimensional model in the lower right-hand corner, they are
illustrated from downstage to up in yellow, light green, dark green, olive, red and blue, respectively.
Note that each border is placed closer to the stage floor than the border directly downstage.
